Your status runs on paperwork.
So does your paycheque.

THE LANDSCAPE

What's actually
happening right now.

A quick read of the policy weather before we open your file - so the strategy fits the ground you're standing on.

Updated for 2026 policy
01 / 02

IRCC work permit refusals rose sharply in 2024–2025, especially for LMIA-based renewals and closed permits tied to a single employer. The margin for error is now measured in weeks, not months.

02 / 02

For clients on closed work permits, PGWPs, or LMIA-supported permits, we manage the extension timeline like an operations plan - not a form fill. Filing early, maintaining implied status correctly, and building an employer letter that actually meets the officer's checklist.

WHO THIS IS FOR

Eligibility, in plain English.

Valid current status

Your current permit is still valid OR you are within 90 days of expiry and eligible for restoration. If you're already out of status past 90 days, we shift to a different strategy - talk to us before doing anything else.

Employer & LMIA (for closed permits)

Employer must hold a positive LMIA or qualify for an LMIA-exempt category (intra-company transfers, CUSMA, francophone mobility, etc.).

Bridging (BOWP)

Available if you have a PR application in progress under specific programs (Express Entry, most PNPs, CEC, FSW, Agri-Food).

Spousal Open Work Permit

Available to spouses of Canadian workers in TEER 0/1 (and some TEER 2/3) roles, and to spouses of international students in most master's/doctoral/professional programs.

HOW WE WORK

Four phases. No handoffs.

4 phases · one RCIC
01PHASE 01

Status audit

We map your permit expiry, implied status window, restoration window, and any dependent permits (spouse, kids). You leave the call knowing every date that matters.

001
02PHASE 02

Employer coordination

For closed permits, we work directly with your employer or their HR/legal to align on LMIA renewal, offer letter, duties/NOC, and wage compliance.

002
03PHASE 03

Filing & implied status

We file before expiry to preserve your right to keep working under implied status. Every document IRCC needs, in the format they need it.

003
04PHASE 04

Post-filing

We monitor for requests for additional documents, respond to procedural fairness letters, and update employers when the new permit is issued.

WHERE FILES FAIL

The three pitfalls we see most.

Filing after expiry

Even one day past expiry destroys implied status - you cannot legally work while the extension is pending. Filing 30+ days before expiry is the standard we hold every file to.

Wrong NOC on renewal

If your duties have drifted from the NOC on your original LMIA, the renewal can be refused. We flag this before you file and rewrite job duties where needed.

Restoration mistakes

Restoration has to be filed within 90 days of losing status AND you cannot work during that window. We've seen files sunk because a client kept working "quietly" while waiting.

QUESTIONS WE GET

Straight answers.

My PGWP expires in 3 weeks. What are my options?+

PGWPs are generally not extendable. Options: a Bridging Open Work Permit if you have a qualifying PR application in progress, a new employer-specific work permit backed by an LMIA, or a visitor record if you need time to plan without working. We map the fastest realistic path on the intake call.

Can I switch employers on a closed work permit?+

Not immediately. You either need a new closed work permit tied to the new employer (usually LMIA-backed) or you file an application under the vulnerable-worker open work permit (in specific circumstances) before starting the new job.

Does implied status let me travel?+

No. Implied status only lets you keep working under the same conditions inside Canada. Leaving Canada while on implied status forfeits it.

THE CHALLENGE

Tight timeline before the current permit expired, combined with employer documentation and LMIA compliance requirements that had to line up exactly.
